Jobs for People with Disabilities

An unfortunate part of being disabled is that there are stereotypes associated with any medical condition that can make it difficult to even find part time jobs. Even though it is illegal to discriminate against disabled people, there are certain jobs that simply are not possible for these people to work at, which can be a frustrating experience. Furthermore, many disabilities will only allow these individuals to do these jobs part time, which is another strike against them when looking for employment. Fortunately, the federal government is now taking a little bit of intuitive in this scenario and is actively trying to provide disabled people with the job training that they need to find jobs part time.
There are many different types of jobs available for people with disabilities, although this is highly dependent on the person's physical capabilities. Generally speaking, these employment opportunities are low stress ventures that attempt to eliminate as much manual labor as possible. Part time jobs like greeters, mail sorters, customer service representative, receptionists, and data entry clerks are perfect for those who are disabled because these jobs allow the person to be relatively stationary through his or her shift. It is also possible to do these jobs part time, which cuts down on the amount of stress that the person will have to deal with.
One program that has been implemented in order to help people find jobs part time is called PASS. This program was implemented by the Social Security Administration and it is meant to match people with disabilities with a job that they are able to do. This means that the type of disability is included in the scenario, so these people will never have to worry about ending up with employment that they cannot handle. The part time jobs that are given out are very wide in nature, so it truly gives those with disabilities the chance to pursue a dream job, rather than simply a paycheck. PASS also gives these individuals the opportunity to get the training and certification that they need in order to succeed, which is why this program has been such a major success thus far.
Another great feature that those with a disability can take advantage of is the Ticket to Work program, which allows these individuals to apply through employment networks. These employment networks will assist in the job hunt and are a much easier way to get a job because they will put you in touch with those looking for employees. Only certain people are eligible for this program, as these employment networks are compensated by Social Security for hiring people who participate. This is a great way to find jobs part time because these companies are actively looking for people who qualify for this program.
These employment networks will also help disabled people to get the training that they need for success. This training comes in a variety of different forms, as there are videos, computer disks, as well as hands on training courses available. In order to get good part time jobs, these individuals will need the proper vocational training and these training and placement programs go a long way in accomplishing just that. This is a win-win situation because disabled people are able to get the part time jobs that they need and the employment networks are compensated for hiring those with disabilities.
The final thing to consider before getting a job is how it will affect the person's disability benefits. In some cases, earning more than $940 will eliminate the cash benefits, but with the right job, it should be possible to make much more than this in the long run. Those who use the Ticket to Work program, however, are able to hold onto these benefits, as this is meant to be a transition period back into the workforce. These people can also keep their government funded medical insurance throughout this process, as the purpose of creating these jobs is to make things easier, rather than more difficult. The good news here is that there are many different jobs available for those with disabilities and the government is attempting to make it as easy as possible for these people to make more money than the benefits provide for them.

Several years ago, I was in the midst of opening up various legal recruiting offices around the United States. In my sheer enthusiasm for the business, I would bring new recruiters from around the country to Los Angeles and have them live with me for several months while training them in my method of recruiting. The new recruiters would sit in my office and I would observe them recruiting and ... |
