In this position you will also provide support services related to information, advocacy, recruitment, training and technical assistance regarding communication accessibility. There will be significant emphasis on the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of professional staff, service providers and consumers. Responsibilities Accurately and impartially interpret or transliterate spoken language into visual language and visual language into spoken language so that department and division-related information is accessible to all affected parties. Function as the expert on interpreting within DHS by providing technical assistance, information/referral, consultation and assistance to DHS divisions, other public and private entities, and individuals. Coordinate communication access coverage for DHHSD central office, metro based staff, CSA sponsored events and meetings, DHS sponsored events and meetings and assist other divisions that have employees who are deaf with developing policies and procedures for arranging interpreting services for day to day work Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Three (3) years professional sign language interpreting experience AND A four-year degree from an interpreter training program; must possess either National Interpreter Certification (NIC), or a Comprehensive Skills Certificate (CSC) by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or National Association of the Deaf (NAD) level 4 or 5 Experience must demonstrate the following: Must be fluent in American Sign Language and spoken English.
